Michael Charles was a tournament winner as a junior, amateur, and now as a professional.
He is a two-time Portland City Junior Champion and two-time Oregon Juniors Medalist. He competed twice In the USGA Public Links Championships, once as the youngest player in the field (17) in 1991. Also in 1991 Charles finished T9th in the Insurance Youth Golf Classic, a national major for junior golf.
Before turning professional in 1996 Michael was a semi-finalist in the Oregon State Amateur, and considered one of the top ranked Division I college players on the West Coast. After being selected to represent the State of Oregon in
both the Junior Americas Cup and Hudson Cup, Michael went on to be an All Conference golfer at the University of Portland.
In 2010 Michael was appointed head coach of both the men's and women's golf teams at Lewis & Clark College. He has also served as Head Coach for
the University of Portland Women's Golf Team, held teaching positions at Palm Springs' Mission Hills and La Quinta Country Clubs, and taught up to 35
classes a week at Meriwether National Golf Club's Oregonian Women's
Golf School.
Currently Michael teaches at one of the country's top rated public
courses, Portland, Oregon's Eastmoreland Golf Course, and continues his
tournament success, most notably with a recent 2nd place finish in the
2008 Oregon PGA Chapter championships.
As a teacher, Michael not only offers a wealth of knowledge and experience from his teaching and tournament successes, but also a lifetime of lessons and
wisdom learned as the son of Clive Charles, international soccer star,
former Head Coach for both the U.S. Olympic(1996-2000), and University of
Portland Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, and the man who The University of
Portland calls, "the greatest coach in more than a century of University
of Portland athletics." Not a bad guy to have as your teacher's
teacher.

| "... I was hitting the ball so far I was surprising myself. On two occasions (even though some angrily said three) my new longer shot went awry and I accidentally hit into the group in front of me. I felt really bad about it but all of my clubs were hitting so much longer now. This was after just one lesson with Michael. " |
